This online Privacy Policy was last updated on January 15, 2010. (Please also review our online Terms & Conditions, which are linked at the bottom of our web pages and which govern many the User-Generated Content and related features, as explained therein.) Levi Strauss & Co. is deeply committed to maintaining the privacy of all online visitors to its family of websites, including: www.levistrauss.com | www.signaturelevistrauss.com | www.levi.com | www.dockers.com | http://goforth.levi.com. Our websites have different purposes and functionalities. We explain these differences in this Privacy Policy, so please read it carefully. We are interested in hearing your ideas on how we can improve the way we collect and use your information. Email your suggestions here. We want to make your experience on Levi Strauss & Co.'s websites as satisfying and safe as reasonably possible. 1. Our Commitment
2. What Information We Collect and How We Collect It What Information Do We Collect? We collect two types of information on our websites:
We collect PII and/or Non-PII depending on the purpose and functionality of each website. CLICK HERE for a chart describing WHAT INFO WE COLLECT on each of our websites: How Do We Collect Information? We collect Personally Identifiable Information when you register for promotional emails, set up a shopping account, contact customer service, and post items on our user-generated content sites (such as Go Forth) or engage in other interactive features with our sites (e.g., consumer opinion surveys). Please also review our online Terms & Conditions, which are linked at the bottom of our web pages and which govern many the User-Generated Content and related features, as explained therein. We collect Anonymous Information through the use of "cookies" and "web beacons." Cookies and web beacons work together to collect and process information regarding how your computer interacts with our Levi's® (www.levi.com) and Dockers® (www.dockers.com) websites. This information is used by our business partners, Razorfish and GSI Commerce, to improve our websites and enhance our product offerings and promotions. What is a cookie? A "cookie" is a computer file that acts as an identification card for your computer. When you visit our Levi's® or Dockers® sites, unique cookies are placed on your browser by our business partners, Razorfish (and its technology partner, Atlas, along with several partnered Networks of Publishers) as well as GSI Commerce. The purpose of the cookie is to distinguish your browser from all other browsers that visit our sites. By recognizing your browser, we can serve you better. For example, the cookies allow us to hold the selections in your shopping cart when you navigate away from the order page and then return to complete the order; because of the cookie, you don't have to start over with your shopping. We can also keep track of what pages of our website your browser visited and whether you purchased a product. That way we can measure such things as how effective our advertising campaigns have been. Working with our partners Razorfish (and its technology partner, Atlas, along with several partnered Networks of Publishers) we also use cookies to track your interests and then provide you with customized banner ads that we think will be more useful than randomly-generated ads because they are based on your past purchases and page visits to our Levi's® and Dockers® sites. What is a web beacon? When you visit our Levi's® or Dockers® sites, web beacons, which are managed by our business partner, Razorfish, will recognize specific cookies that have been placed on your browser by us and by Networks of Publishers ("Publishers" are content sites that sell advertising space on their sites) that are partnered with Razorfish. Web beacons can convey information that a browser with a recognized cookie has accessed a page or a certain part of a page on our website, depending on where the web beacon is located on the Levi's® or Dockers® website. For example, a web beacon located on our purchase confirmation page will record that a browser with a recognized cookie accessed that page which means that we can conclude that the browser was used to purchase a product. The web beacon does not, however, tell us that you specifically (by reference to PII) have purchased a product because the cookie is only the browser's identification card; it is not your personal identification card. (In other words, none of the information obtained by the web beacon is connected to any Personally Identifiable Information). We use web beacons to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns and to improve our websites by seeing what pages are visited and whether those visits result in purchases. Web beacons also allow our partner Razorfish to select and serve banner advertisements to your browser that you would be most likely to be interested in, as discussed in section below titled "How Our Business Partners Use Information." Purposes for Information Collection There are three important reasons why we (working with our trusted business partners) collect information on our websites.
Because we collect only the information that is reasonably necessary to improve a given website and your experience in relation to that website, we collect and use information differently at different websites. CLICK HERE for a chart describing HOW WE USE INFO collected on each of our websites: Disclosure and Sharing of Information We will not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to outside parties without providing you with advance notice and an opportunity to consent. "Outside parties" do not include companies wholly-owned by Levi Strauss & Co. or trusted business partners, such as GSI Commerce, who help operate and provide services on our websites. We treat your PII as confidential, and we require, by contract, each of our business partners to also treat as confidential all of the PII obtained from our websites. Our business partners, in turn, may share information with their own service providers pursuant to similar confidentiality restrictions. We reserve the right to disclose your PII and any non-PII to the extent we reasonable believe that disclosure is required by law, to enforce our website policies, or to protect your's or others' rights, property or safety. How Our Business Partners Use Information We work with industry-leading business partners who help us operate our websites and provide important services to our customers and visitors.
We also may collect and store information about you that we receive from other sources, to enable us to update and correct the information contained in our database and to provide product recommendations and special offers that we think will interest you. From time to time, we partner with trusted third parties to design and operate contests or promotional events for our valued customers and visitors. Some of these contests and events may be online at our Go Forth website (http://goforth.levi.com) or related Levi's® sites. All Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Anonymous Information (non-PII) obtained through your participation in our promotional events will be subject to this Privacy Policy, as well as the privacy policies and practices of our promotional event partner. We will require, by contract, that our partners treat any PII and non-PII that may be obtained through a contest or promotional event in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy. 4. Your Choices Regarding Your Information Use of PII: Promotional Communications There are several ways in which you can control our use of your submitted PII in connection with promotional communications. When you set up an account, or click on "Manage Your Account" within the Help Desk area of one of our e-commerce websites (www.levi.com or www.dockers.com) or place an order, you will have an opportunity to access, correct or update your choices/settings in this regard. You can also click the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any promotional emails we send to you. If you have any difficulty managing your communication preferences, please CLICK HERE to contact our Customer Service Department or email customerservice@levisstore.com. Use of Non-PII: Online Shopping Services and Targeted Online Advertisements Online Shopping Services As noted above in this Policy, a cookie is a unique computer file placed in your browser that distinguishes your browser from all other browsers. By recognizing your browser, our e-commerce partner, GSI Commerce (and its technology partner, Omniture) can provide you better online services. For example, cookies allow us to hold your shopping-cart selections when you navigate away and then return to the order page. Cookies also allow us to recognize you as an account holder when you return to our Levi's® or Dockers® sites. Most browsers accept cookies automatically. We recommend that you leave cookies "turned on" so we can offer you a better shopping experience on our sites. However, if you wish to prevent cookies from being accepted, most internet browsers allow you to do so- e.g., in Internet Explorer, click "Tools," then "Internet Options" and adjust your cookie settings on the "Privacy" tab (e.g.; the "Block All Cookies" setting blocks all future cookies and renders all existing cookies unreadable by websites). For more information, please check your browser's technical information and/or visit http://www.aboutcookies.org, which is a helpful informational site on cookies. Please note that preventing your browser from accepting cookies also prevents Levi Strauss (or any company) from tracking your browser for purposes of targeted ads. However, it may also disable or interfere with shopping features on our sites or other sites that you may visit. Please read below to find out how you can opt out of targeted online ads, without disabling cookies. Targeted Online Advertisements As noted above, our advertising partner, Razorfish/Atlas (as well as Networks of Publisher sites engaged by Razorfish/Atlas), place cookies on your browser to keep track of your interactions with our sites for purposes of serving you targeted banner ads. We believe these tailored ads are more useful to you than randomly-generated ads because they are tailored to your your shopping and product interests. However, to OPT-OUT of receiving targeted ads and from being tracked for targeted ad purposes through cookies issued from our sites (including cookies issued by Networks of Publishers), please follow these OPT-OUT STEPS: STEP 1: Go to the National Advertising Initiative ("NAI") site: http://www.networkadvertising.org STEP 2: Select the "Consumer Opt-Out" tool, which is prominently featured on the NAI homepage STEP 3: Under the "Opt-Out Status" section, choose "Select All" and then "Submit" STEP 4: Under the "Opt Out of NAI Member Ad Networks" section on the following page, ensure that ALL of the NAI networks have been selected for opt-out, and then hit "Click here to continue" at the bottom of that page STEP 5: Under the "Opt-Out Status" section on the following page, confirm that you have received an "Opt-Out Cookie" from each of the NAI networks Because we contractually require Razorfish to work only with Networks of Publishers that are NAI members (including Razorfish?s technology partner, Atlas), the OPT-OUT STEPS will stop all targeted banner ads from Levi Strauss and will stop the Networks from tracking your browser through cookies issued from our sites. Please note that the OPT-OUT STEPS steps cannot prevent all online advertising (e.g.; you may still get randomly generated ads). Please also note that the OPT-OUT STEPS actually result in "opt-out cookies" being placed on yur browser, which inform NAI members not to track or serve targeted ads to your browser. Thus, if you subsequently delete all your cookies, the NAI opt-out cookies will also be deleted. Please be careful in managing your cookies and browser settings. If you have any difficulty or questions about the OPT-OUT STEPS, please contact us at the email, telephone number and/or postal address provided below. Levi Strauss & Co. websites may contain "links" to other websites. We recommend that you check the specific privacy policy of any site before providing any PII or allowing non-PII to be collected. 6. We Do Not Collect Children's Information Levi Strauss & Co.'s websites are not intended to be directed towards individuals under 13 years of age ("Children"). We do not knowingly collect any PII from Children. If any Children contacts us and provides PII, we will take reasonable measures to alert a parent or legal guardian and also to delete such information. 7. Safeguarding Your Information Information you provide to us is protected from public access by a password that you provide upon registration on one of our brand-focused websites. In order to help protect your personal information further, you should be careful about providing your password to others. If you wish to cancel your password, or if you become aware of any loss, theft or unauthorized use of your password, please click here to contact our Customer Service Department. We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt transmissions of sensitive information from your computer to our servers. We require our trusted business partners, by contract, to protect information obtained from our websites. Online Updates to the Privacy Policy If we modify this Privacy Policy, we will post the revised Privacy Policy on this website. We also may post a notice on this website or send an email describing the changes. You should check this website regularly to see if any recent changes to this Privacy Policy have occurred. We will not make any change to this Privacy Policy that will change our collection and use of your PII without first obtaining your consent.
